Garageband is an interactive app for iMacs that caters to music lovers of all skill levels. An incredibly user-friendly application, it allows the novice such as myself to create new tracks using thousands of pre-loaded sounds encompassing many genres of music and an impressive variety of instruments. The more talented user can use his or her own music to create new tracks.
Some advice for the first-time user:
Use Magic Garageband. It is easier for the first-time user, as it guides the user along with options, beginning with genres and ending with instruments. With Magic Garageband you will have a general template for your song that you can work with, even if you might not feel as creative.
Once you get to the interface, don’t get too caught up in all of the controls and effects available to you. Try to stick to the general template you created in Magic Garageband, editing when needed to create a more personalized song.
The only criticism I have is that it is difficult to change the tempo of a song in the interface. The user also cannot edit pre-existing songs in the iTunes library, but I suppose that is because of protection by copyright laws.
I was able to make a short track that is a Latin/Jazz blend. Enjoy/Cover your ears.
